When 4-4-0s worked this line, this building was the busiest place on the branch. Every morning, locos were wheeled out, polished and oiled before starting the day’s work. Once the shop floor was clear, wooden freight or passenger cars were led in by the switcher. Sometimes a loco would be there needing some attention. Then, the carpenter and blacksmith took over, the ringing of their tools drifting out through the big wooden doors.
Down through the years, the old shop has tasted coal smoke and diesel soot. It’s still standing, still doing the jobs it was built for. And now, you can put it to work for your HO operations, with the Standard Backwoods Engine House or Car Shop.
This a building that says “railroad” in any scene. It can handle all the chores of a branch, shortline or industrial road. Picture it with steam or diesel power, wood or steel cars . . . they’ll all look great spotted here.
Its detailed board and batten siding fits any era and the building is easily customized. Scribed interior cut lines simplify adding a through track or a third door. Plus, the roof can be built with stacks for locos, or a clerestory skylight for car repairs. Parts for both versions are included.
